Blood & Broken Promises

Yeah... Some wounds don’t come from enemies. They come from the people you would’ve died for. Lord, keep my heart from becoming what they tried to turn it into.

I gave blood for the bond, put my name on the line, When the whole world abandoned you, I was there every time. Shared my food, shared my home, gave you half of my plate, Now you’re talking to the enemy and smiling in my face. You said forever was forever, but forever came with terms, Soon as pressure touched the circle, I watched loyalty burn. Every secret that I trusted became weapons in your hands, Now the brother that I prayed for trying to bury who I am. I carried you through darkness when nobody saw the good, Stood beside you through the pain like a real brother should. Now the same hands I protected put a knife into my back, And the truth hurts worse when it’s coming from your pack. I’ve been crossed by those I loved, lied on by those I fed, Had them praying at my table while they wished that I was dead. But I’m standing through the wounds, every battle, every scar, Betrayal broke my trust, but it never broke my God.

I remember every promise, every word you made me trust, “You can count on me forever,” now forever turned to dust. When the money started coming, everybody called me brother, When the darkness started closing, they went running for cover. Had my name inside their mouths, had my pain inside their jokes, They were celebrating quietly every time they thought I broke. But the tears that hit the floor became the water for my growth, And the fire they put me through only strengthened what I know. You can take a man’s possessions, drag his name into the dirt, Spread a thousand accusations, but you can’t erase his worth. I was searching for revenge with all the anger in my veins, Till I heard the Lord remind me, “Don’t become the thing you hate.” Now I’m fighting with forgiveness while the rage is fighting back, Trying not to lose my spirit over everything I lack. I don’t trust the way I used to, but I’m learning how to live, Because carrying all this hatred weighs more than I can give.

Father... I’m angry. I’m hurt. Part of me wants them to feel everything they put me through. But revenge won’t heal me. Take this bitterness before it becomes my identity. Teach me how to forgive without forgetting what I learned.

I lost brothers to the streets, lost some others to the greed, Lost the people who said family was the only thing they need. Some were taken by addiction, some were swallowed by the system, Some were standing right beside me while they planned my crucifixion. Every loss became a chapter, every scar became a page, Every broken expectation put more wisdom in my age. I ain’t innocent or perfect, I made promises I broke, I caused pain inside the people who were giving me their hope. So before I point a finger, let me look inside my soul, Maybe all of us are damaged, trying hard to become whole. That don’t justify betrayal, and it doesn’t clear the pain, But forgiveness doesn’t mean that I should trust you once again. It means cutting every chain that kept my spirit tied to yours, I refuse to let your choices keep me fighting endless wars. You can keep the lies you told me and the mask you used to wear, I’m walking forward with my scars because I know that God is there. You thought breaking me would end me, but you only played a part, You destroyed the man I used to be and built a stronger heart. Now the blood beneath my footsteps proves I made it through defeat, Every promise that you shattered put more strength beneath my feet.

The blood has dried. The promises are gone. But I’m still here. Lord, forgive the ones who hurt me. And forgive me for the pain I caused along the way. As long as I’m breathing... You’re not finished with me yet.
